SUB 600: The Substitute Teacher's Guide to Special Education (2 CEUs or 30 Hours)

SUB 600 prepares substitute teachers to confidently support students with disabilities in inclusive, resource, and specialized classroom settings. Participants will learn the foundations of special education, including IDEA, FAPE, LRE, IEPs, and confidentiality requirements. The course explores the 13 disability categories recognized under IDEA and provides practical strategies for supporting students' academic, behavioral, communication, social-emotional, and physical needs. Through real-world scenarios and interactive learning activities, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to collaborate with paraprofessionals and school staff, respond appropriately to classroom situations, and create safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments that promote student success during a teacher's absence.
